[Submissions]

*We’re not a journal, but we are serious – we pride ourselves on our quality editing and choice of submissions.
*There is a limit of 350 words for flash fiction, or a limit of 40 lines for poems. Short stories cap at 1200 words.
*All work should be edited as if submitting for a professional journal. Pieces with extensive spelling or grammatical errors will not be accepted.
*There are no content or genre requirements; we have 5 editors who will each read every submission – that’s at least five different preferences.
*As this newsletter will be presented to the general public, please be aware of the suitability of explicit content.
*We only accept 1 short story or 2 poems at a time. If one of your submissions is not accepted, you are welcome to submit another. You will receive an official notice regarding the acceptance of your submissions.
*We are happy to send back feedback with submissions we don’t accept – just remember, we are not official publishers by any stretch of the imagination, so any feedback we give is purely our own opinion.
*In case you’re wondering, should any of our editors submit content for publication, it gets put through exactly the same process as anyone else’s; we take ourselves seriously at Underground.
*Submissions should preferably be in DOC (Microsoft Word) format. We can work around this without much hassle, but it’s just much easier and makes everyone happier.
*You should receive a confirmation that we have recieved your submission within a week. If you have not, please resend it to us until you do recieve the confirmation. However do not expect any reply regarding the state of your submission until submissions for each issue have closed.
*Submitting content to us may mean that your work is not available for publishing in other journals or in competitions. See below for details.

Most importantly, just remember we’re students! For us, Underground is a hobby, so if we don’t get back to you straight away, give us a bit of time. If more than a week goes by, let us know, and one of our editors will get back to you straight away.

All submissions should be sent to submissions@underground-writers.org. We look forward to seeing what you’ll send our way!

In lieu with the last dot point, some journals/competitions have let us know that they will not accept work previously published by Underground. So far, this list includes:

    *Katherine Susanna Pritchard Writer’s Centre
*Indigo Journal (on a case by case basis)

We are still waiting on contact from several journals, so watch this space!
