Name: Lauren Pratt
Age: 20
Favourite book and/or author and/or series: Some of my favourite books include Rush Oh! by Shirley Barrett, Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut, Peril at End House by Agatha Christie, and The Millstone by Margaret Drabble.
Study, either current or past: I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing with a minor in Australian Indigenous Studies.
Wildest ambition in writing: I want to read exciting books and write reviews about them!
Your passion in the written word: I love reading books that I would never pick for myself. I also really enjoy reading books of poetry like Love and Misadventure by Lang Leav. There is something special about finding a new book that I’ve never heard of and being captivated by the beauty of the language.
Your passions outside of writing: When I am not busy writing or reading I am painting, shopping for more books, rewatching Gilmore Girls, and eating dumplings.
Your current project/s: I am mainly focused on finishing my degree but I am also documenting my travels with watercolour paintings.
Quirks and quotes you’d like to share: “No book left the impression on me that Kes did. I was convinced that it had travelled the globe to find me” – Tony Birch

Name: Grace Wholley
Age: 21
Favourite book and/or author and/or series: It would be unjust not to mention The Great Gatsby. It was one of the first books I read and while many years have passed, I still can’t shake my animosity towards Daisy! More recently I picked up Rashad Shabazz’s Spatialising Blackness: Architectures of Confinement and Black Masculinity in Chicago. It was an incredibly interesting read that discussed the prison-like environment within the city’s South Side. I highly recommend it!
Study, either current or past: I am currently in the last semester of my degree at Curtin where I major in Literary and Cultural Studies and minor in both Professional Writing and Publishing and Fine Art.
Wildest ambition in writing: I would love to edit an anthology! Maybe two if I’m lucky!
Your passion in the written word: While I have a deep appreciation for fictional works, I have always been the most passionate about non-fiction. I love theory-based cultural texts as well as essays.
Your passions outside of writing: Art! The stranger the better!
Your current project/s: My largest project would have to be my graduate paper which explores the politics of haunting. I’ll be looking at abandoned landscapes and the cultural implications of structural decay.
Quirks and quotes you’d like to share: ‘I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.’ – F. Scott Fitzgerald.
