Name: Ebony Bryant
Age: 21
Favourite book and/or author and/or series: My childhood favourites will always remain Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness, but to pick a favourite now is almost impossible. While I enjoy a good fantasy novel with strong political plots, these days I’ve been hoping to expand my reading by dabbling into genres I’m less familiar with.
Study, either current or past: Graduated from Curtin University with a BA in Professional Writing and Publishing, and Creative Writing.
Wildest ambition in writing: For my stories to become something precious to someone other than myself.
Your passion in the written word: To stumble across those sentences that have me reading them over and over until the emotions of those simple words are felt deep within my chest. I read to discover those beautifully constructed phrases, I write to one day convey them.
Your passions outside of writing: When I’m not lost in a YouTube deep-dive of underrated music, you will often find me gushing over art supplies or ranting about the latest Asian dramas.
Your current project/s: As I try to sort out the jumbled mess that is this story’s plot, I am currently enjoying the finer details of character relationships and world-building.
Quirks and quotes you’d like to share: “My imagination makes me human and makes me a fool; it gives me all the world and exiles me from it.” – Ursula K. Le Guin

Name: Max Vos
Age: 22
Favourite book and/or author and/or series: Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre
Study, either current or past: First-class Bachelor of Honours for dissertation on Transhumanism and transgender theory
Wildest ambition in writing: To publish a series of queer gothic fantasy novels which I both write and illustrate
Your passion in the written word: I believe that writing is an age-old way for people to connect to one another and that people are natural storytellers. The written word is a powerful practice in empathy.
Your passions outside of writing: I love playing video games (especially Hollow Knight) and am fascinated by the unique storytelling opportunities they offer. Creative, unique games like What Remains of Edith Finch (my favourite) and Return of the Obra Dinn are perfect examples. I also love art and crafts; painting, embroidery, and illustration.
Your current project/s: At the moment I’m working on my submission for The Illo Club’s FROM ASHES zine and on my graphic novel!
Quirks and quotes you’d like to share: “… a meandered journey still has meaning. It is, after all, from a journey we find our purpose, though a stop is more than just a stop. And my if those stops can’t be lovely things, wouldn’t you say? Transcendent plateaus, distant sandy lands, vast ancient kingdoms. Yours was not the first, nor will it be the last, but it’s a unique and special thing nonetheless.” – Mister Mushroom from Hollow Knight.
