Writing Opportunities for April

This prize seeks entries of 1,500-3,000 words of creative writing, including fiction, creative non-fiction, and short stories on any theme. Open to all undergraduate students currently enrolled in Australia or New Zealand – a course code and student number are required to submit. Closing 15th April
The theme of this year’s Rachel Funari Prize for Fiction is ‘Metamorphosis’, with a focus on women’s stories. Stories must engage with the theme and be no longer than 2,000 words, for Australian residents only. Closing 20th April.
The Dulcie Stone Writers Competition is open to Victorian residents with intellectual disability. The theme for the 2018 competition is: Community – Here I Come! What gives life meaning and purpose? What does a good life in the community look like? Works can be up to 1,000 words or a storyboard of up to three A4 pages of drawings. Closing 27th April.
‘An initiative of the Theatre Arts at Curtin University, offering a Western Australian playwright the opportunity to write and premiere a new play. The university is currently seeking a 1-page Expression of Interest from playwrights, with work to be produced in the Studio at the Blue Room Theatre (3-8 December 2018). It could be a new project or a play you’ve already written that has yet to be produced. Expressions of interest close Friday 27 April.
Inspired by the theme ‘Drag, Voiceworks magazine is seeking pitches and pieces from writers under 25: submissions for nonfiction, fiction and poetry are all closed, but art and comics pitches are due 29th April.
‘Fiction disguised as or in the guise of ‘real’ textual artefacts: recipes, shopping lists, transcripts, court summons, emails, Wikipedia entries, guest books, contracts, passive-aggressive post-its, report cards – anything that tells a story through an otherwise ‘real’ document. There is also a Youth Category for poets aged 11-18 years and their entry is free. poems are invited to respond with 12-line poems to artworks from the Baldessin and Friends commemorative folio, recently acquired for the Nillumbik Shire Art Collection.
