Wollongong Writers Festival Short Story Prize 2018
Seeking short stories up to 2,500 words on the theme ‘Feeding Time’. Entry is $15, closing 15th October.

2018 Glen Phillips Poetry Prize – Peter Cowan Writers Centre
Open theme, $10 per entry, maximum of 50 lines. Includes a Youth category for 12-17 year olds which is $5 per entry. Closing 19th October.

Australian Short Story Festival

Girls Will Be Girls Spring Fever Submissions open

ELLE Writing Competition 2018
First prize is $5,000 and publication in ELLE. Entries close 26th October.

Carter Brown Mystery Writing Award
This new award is open to all writers of novella-length adult crime/mystery fiction (~20,000–50,000 words). The winner will be published in the US, Canada, Australia and NZ, thanks to Brio Books and Stark House Pres. Closing 31st October.

Field of Words Memoir Competition
Seeking memoir entries of 1,000-2,000 words, AUD$15 entry fee. Closing 31st October.

[untitled] issue 8 seeking submissions
Open to entrants of all ages living in Australia, free submission, no genre specifications, and stories must be 300-8,000 words in length. Open until 31st October.

2019 KYD New Critic Award
‘The New Critic Award is again open to critics working in all fields of arts and culture (books, film, television, theatre, music, dance, performance, visual arts, etc). This year we’re particularly interested in writing that speaks to the changing nature of arts criticism.’ Entries close 2nd November.

Odyssey House Victoria Short Story Competition
Open to writers of all ages and experience, submissions must be no more than 1,500 words on the theme of ‘Reflection’ and must make a reference to alcohol and/or drugs. Entry is AUD$10. Closes 2nd November.
