We are very pleased to welcome the newest members of the Underground Writers team. Former Junior Editor Ebony Bryant is joining the team full time as an Editor with her sharp eye and thoughtful feedback. Ebony will not only be working with authors on the issues but also with our editorial team in the content produced for this website. Meanwhile, filling a role we didn’t even know we needed filled until we heard his skill set, Paul will be developing the graphic storytelling capacity of Underground’s reach through reviews and interviews with Australian graphic storytellers. He will also be designing and typesetting our issues from now on, starting with issue 32: Horror, which will be available from 5th November. Read more about Ebony & Paul below!

Study, either current or past: Bachelor of Arts majoring in Illustration Design from Curtin University, Certificate III in Digital
Media, Certificate IV in Technical Art, Diploma of Animation in Screen & Media and a Certificate III and Certificate IV in Music Performance.
Wildest Ambition in Publishing: I would love to be able to support myself working in the local publishing industry in any capacity whether that be marketing, design, typesetting or editing.
Your passion in the written word: How people can connect with each other across continents and centuries, learn something about themselves and understand more about the human experience through thought and language.
Your passions outside of writing: Travelling, listening to music, writing, sketching, playing video games, drinking coffee, noodling on guitar, trying to design stuff and pretending I know how to skateboard.
Your current projects: To put as much of my energy into contributing to Underground Writers and making my contribution to this team and organisation a positive one. I also want to continue to learn and grow my current skillset in graphic design, web development and digital marketing and try to write and publish some of my own content on a website that I’ve yet to make.
And to become a dog owner!
Quirks and quotes you’d like to share: “Some people feel the rain, others just get wet” — Bob Dylan
Name: Ebony Bryant
Role: Editor, Web Content Editor
Favourite book and/or author and/or series: My childhood favourites will always remain Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness, but to pick a favourite now is almost impossible. While I enjoy a good fantasy novel with strong political plots, these days I’ve been hoping to expand my reading by dabbling into genres I’m less familiar with.
Study, either current or past: Graduated from Curtin University with a BA in Professional Writing and Publishing, and Creative Writing.
Wildest ambition in writing: For my stories to become something precious to someone other than myself.
Your passion in the written word: To stumble across those sentences that have me reading them over and over until the emotions of those simple words are felt deep within my chest. I read to discover those beautifully constructed phrases, I write to one day convey them.
Your passions outside of writing: When I’m not lost in a YouTube deep-dive of underrated music, you will often find me gushing over art supplies or ranting about the latest Asian dramas.
Your current project/s: As I try to sort out the jumbled mess that is this story’s plot, I am currently enjoying the finer details of character relationships and world-building.
